Yucca Valley High School students are encouraged to join the Art Club. The purpose of the club is to allow for individual artists to explore their area of interest with the media they choose. Club members generally promote the arts at YVHS, the town of Yucca Valley, and the Morongo Basin.

 The club meets every other Wednesday afternoon immediately after school and the room is open until 3:30 PM.

Lynzy Kunz:

My job description is simple but the rewards are numerous.  I am a teen docent for Palm Springs Art Museum. I dedicate one day a week to open the young minds of third, fourth, and fiteh graders to the wondrous world of art.  I help them interpret the artwork and stimulate their imaginations.  In turn they help me get a better or different perception on some pieces I may have looked over or judged too quickly.  These kids are our future and they start to think for themselves at this age however, they are often misunderstood or underestimated.  On the contrary, they have some really deep and intelligent things to say.  My partner and I engage the children in the conversation about the six art pieces we have chosen.  We ask questions about every piece and ask that each student come up with a story of their very own to go along with it.  The variety of things they come up with is phenomenal.  The museum has handpicked the docents and believes that teenagers are more likely to remember how it was when they were nine or ten.  The children respond better when they don’t feel intimated.  They have so much to say and love to have someone who will listen.  I love my job and hope that one day a docent may be interpreting my art in a famous museum.

This experience is and continues to be eye opening and one that I will remember for years to come.
